Due to its pronounced tannins and high alcohol content, this wine does not pair well with well-done meats or very acidic or salty dishes. Its best expression comes alongside rich and flavorful recipes, such as arroz carreteiro, braised beef, tripe stew, feijoada, pasta with ragù, country-style chicken with rice, chicken with okra, baião de dois, pasta feasts, classic pizzas, and aged semi-firm cheeses.
